How to properly use hand sanitizer, according to the World Health Organization

Do your part to fight the coronavirus outbreak with hand hygiene!

We’ve been hearing so many recommendations at this point to help stop the spread of coronavirus, including staying at home, maintaining social distance, and not touching your face. Hand hygiene is the single most important measure we can take to keep us healthy! Washing your hands with soap and water is ideal, but using hand sanitizer is an effective, fast, and convenient way to clean your hands.

Here’s how to do it correctly, based on World Health Organization recommendations:

  1. Apply a palmful of an alcohol-based hand sanitizer in your cupped hand

  2. Rub your hands together palm to palm

  3. Rub right palm over the back of your left hand, interlacing fingers, then switch hands

  4. Rub your palms together with fingers interlaced

  5. Backs of fingers to opposing palms with fingers interlocked

  6. Rotate each thumb in your opposite clasped palm, then switch

  7. Rub the tips of your fingers in the opposite palm then switch

  8. Let them dry completely!

The whole process takes just 20-30 seconds and can keep you and those around you healthy!

Stay safe, friends!
