Lateral (Temple) Brow Lift
What is a Lateral Brow Lift?
The lateral brow lift—sometimes called a temple brow lift—is a targeted surgical technique that elevates the outer third of the eyebrow. Rather than addressing the entire forehead, this approach focuses precisely on the area where brow descent is most commonly noticed: the tail, or lateral portion, of the brow.
Incisions are made within the temporal hairline, keeping them discreetly hidden while allowing the surgeon to lift and reposition the lateral brow tissue to a more youthful, open position.
What It Addresses
The lateral brow lift is particularly well-suited for patients who experience:
Drooping or heaviness at the outer corners of the brows
A hooded appearance in the outer upper eyelid area
Lateral brow descent that creates a tired or sad expression
Asymmetry concentrated in the tail of the brow
Mild-to-moderate brow descent without significant forehead line concerns
The Procedure
The lateral brow lift is performed through small incisions placed within the temple hairline, where they remain virtually invisible once healed. Through these incisions, Dr. Kieu releases and repositions the lateral brow tissue, securing it at a lifted, more youthful position. The procedure can typically be performed under local anesthesia with sedation, making it an approachable option for many patients.
It is frequently combined with upper blepharoplasty to address both the brow position and any excess upper eyelid skin simultaneously.
Benefits of the Lateral Approach
Targeted correction without altering the central forehead
Well-concealed incisions within the natural hairline
Can open and refresh the outer eye area without a "done" look
Shorter recovery time compared to full forehead lift techniques
Easily combined with eyelid surgery or facelift procedures
Ideal Candidates
You may be a strong candidate for a lateral brow lift if you:
Have descent or heaviness primarily at the outer brow
Want a subtle, refreshed look without significant forehead alteration
Are concerned about upper eyelid hooding that stems from the brow, not the lid
Are in good general health with realistic expectations
Dr. Kieu's Approach
Dr. Kieu understands that brow lift results should look natural and rested—not surprised or artificial. With the lateral brow lift, she focuses on gently restoring the outer brow arc to a position that harmonizes with the rest of the face. Every incision is placed with long-term scar concealment in mind, and every lift is calibrated to the patient's individual anatomy.
